A South African Initiative that supports individuals, groups and families to start or diversify their home plant cultivation practice. We focus on indigenous African food, fruit and nutraceutical plants.

People and plants go hand in hand. We distribute seeds and seedlings to support homestead regenerative vitality and work with local growers to develop their market potentials.

Our aim is to contribute to the revival of the indigenous culture of earning an income from the homestead through agricultural enterprise, while fostering regenerative community of continual improvement which aligns more and more with Nature.

Whether you are rural or urban based, an experienced grower or just starting out, we would like to encourage you to use your space, no matter its size, to nurture your financial growth. We can assist with one, or a variety of plant species to cultivate, depending on your local market.

Our online shop network will expand opportunities to access the supply chain from wherever you are. In this way we are working together to help restore the culture of growing plants to nurture the homestead’s regenerative capacity.

Launched in 2025

Our partner plant market operates in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town, Western Cape. Chat with Plants and Arts Africa and view the current stock.

Initial operations are starting off with plants sourced from the local community of informal growers and include a range of fruit trees, herbs, water-wise plants and succulents as well as a growing range of seeds in these categories:

Indigenous African Foods

We aim to bring the indigenous African foods back into the mainstream of South African culture. We do this by distributing the seeds and plants, working on education through multimedia and developing the network of People’s Plant Nurseries.

Heirloom Food Plants

When it comes to food-garden plants we tend to stick to organic heirloom varieties so that it is possible to practice the Natural practices of saving and regrowing seed. This allows for simpler biodynamic gardens where plants are left to sow themselves.

Nutraceutical Plants

Some families and varieties of plants carry particularly powerful benefits for human when we use them in food, drinks, or topically. Since humans and plants have evolved together, naturally we function better when we use plants to support our daily living. Our nurseries endeavour to source locally available nutraceutical plants so that we can minimise the need to import high value superfoods and grow our local communities’ access to a wide range of beneficial plants to cultivate at home.
